蒙特梭利的课程通常以围圈时间来开始和结束，此时老师就会引入一个新概念或新的工作材料。接下来班级迅速分成小组形式，学生自由从五个区域中选择当天他们感兴趣的，想学的工作。
虽然在蒙特梭利教室里我们让学生选择自己感兴趣的工作，但是我们的蒙氏老师也会通过整合其他老师也在教的本周学术主题来确认孩子学习的延续性。如果孩子正在中文和英文教室学习关于海洋的知识，蒙氏老师也会在她的班级提供与此主题相符的学习机会。
Maria Montessori was an early 20th-century doctor who studied the way children learn in a natural environment, not in a traditional classroom. She created a teaching method that focuses on how children learn most effectively because she recognized that a self-motivated student learns and retains more information than a student being forced to learn.
Her method has been developed and refined over time. It is now an internationally recognized approach to teaching. Key elements of the Montessori method include: Allowing the child to choose a focus or interest; Using all the physical senses to make abstract ideas real and physical; Having the teacher track each child’s interests and progress over time; Modeling proper behavior and grace by the teacher, and; Teaching self-control rather than imposing discipline.
A Montessori class often begins and ends with circle time, where the teacher might introduce a new concept or material to the class. The class quickly breaks up as a group and the students are allowed to choose in which of five areas he or she wishes to learn that day.
While the Montessori classroom lets students choose their own focus, our Montessori teachers ensure continuity with the other classrooms by integrating the week’s academic theme being taught by the other teachers. If our children are currently learning about the ocean as a part of their curriculum in the Chinese and English classrooms, the Montessori teacher will provide learning opportunities that match the ocean theme.
